Nikki had always been the kind of person who chased approval as if it were oxygen. At work, she volunteered for every project, not because she wanted to, but because she thought it would earn her praise. At home, she scrolled endlessly through social media, measuring her happiness by the number of likes and comments. Every compliment was a spark of joy, but it faded quickly, leaving her desperate for the next one. Every criticism, on the other hand, cut her deeply, making her feel like her value was slipping away. Every criticism was like a wrecking ball to her.

It was as if her life were a stock market. On days when people applauded her, her value soared. On days when she was overlooked or criticized, her value plummeted. And no matter how hard she worked or how much she pleased others, she always felt one step away from collapse.

One evening, sitting quietly in her room after another long day of trying to please everyone, Nikki had a moment of clarity. She realized she had been living as if her worth depended on a vote she could never win. She thought, ‘What if my value doesn’t need to be proven?’ What if it already exists—unchanging, no matter what others think?

The thought shook her. Slowly, she began to test it. The next time she posted online, she didn’t check for likes. The next time she was asked to do something she didn’t believe in, she said no. At first, it felt uncomfortable, even frightening. But she also noticed something: the sky didn’t fall. Her worth didn’t crumble. In fact, she felt stronger, freer.

Over time, Nikki learned that her value wasn’t tied to her job title, her relationship status, or the opinions of others. It wasn’t in applause, promotions, or social approval. Her worth was intrinsic—already present, already enough. For the first time in her life, she began to live from within, not for approval, but for authenticity. And in that shift, Nikki discovered something priceless: when she valued herself, the opinions of others no longer held her hostage.

    Moral of the story:

Your worth is not up for debate! It is not something to be earned, measured, or proven by the approval of others. It already exists within you.

When you tie your value to likes, promotions, or applause, you live as a prisoner to outside opinions. But when you embrace your intrinsic worth, you find freedom, authenticity, and strength. The story reminds us that true confidence comes from within, not from validation, and that life becomes lighter and more fulfilling when you stop chasing approval and start honoring yourself.

In short: Stop living for applause—start living for authenticity.
